Governor Adeleke Resigns From PDP Ahead of Governorship Primary

With less than 24 hours to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election, Governor Ademola Adeleke has formally resigned his membership from the party.

Earlier on Monday, the Osun State PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, announced that the primary election scheduled for Tuesday would not hold due to a deepening factional crisis within the party. He added that Governor Adeleke was no longer interested in contesting for the party’s nomination because of the ongoing conflict.

However, a separate letter from the PDP National Secretariat insisted that the primary would still take place on Tuesday at the Atlantic Multipurpose Hall in Osogbo.

Amid the conflicting positions, a resignation letter dated November 4, 2025, surfaced on Monday evening, confirming that Governor Adeleke had withdrawn from the PDP.

The letter, addressed to the Chairman of Sagba Ward 2 in Ede, cited the crisis within the party’s national leadership as the reason for his exit.

Titled “Resignation of My Membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)”, the governor wrote:

“Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect.

“I thank the People’s Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator (representing Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State under the People’s Democratic Party.”
