In a grand show of support for women’s football, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has gifted the Super Falcons a cash prize of ₦50 million as motivation ahead of their crucial WAFCON 2026 qualifier against the Amazons of Benin Republic. The announcement came via his official Instagram page on Tuesday following the team’s courtesy visit to his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The reception, held on Monday, was filled with excitement and pride as the governor praised the Falcons for their remarkable consistency and historic dominance in African women’s football. He described the financial gesture as both a reward for their excellence and a reminder of his administration’s dedication to nurturing sports talent across Ogun State.

Governor Abiodun wrote, “While playing host to the Super Falcons yesterday ahead of their WAFCON 2026 qualifier against Benin Republic, we announced a ₦50 million support package in recognition of their inspiring performance and to further motivate them. This gesture reflects our administration’s unwavering commitment to sports development and youth empowerment.”

The governor also highlighted his government’s efforts in revamping the MKO Abiola International Stadium and establishing a world-class sports hub aimed at positioning Ogun State as a true “Gateway to Excellence.” The players expressed gratitude for the recognition, with several promising to give their best performance on the pitch as they continue to make Nigeria proud.

This move not only strengthens Ogun’s position as a key supporter of sports development but also serves as a powerful morale booster for the Falcons as they pursue yet another continental triumph.
