Looks like things are shifting in Akwa Ibom politics, and fast too.
Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, has just confirmed that Governor Umo Eno is now the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State.
Yes, you read that right — the same Umo Eno who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Onanuga made this known in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday after Governor Eno paid a visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa. He wasn’t alone; Senate President Godswill Akpabio was also part of the delegation.
In the post, Onanuga wrote:
“Akwa Ibom Governor, Umo Eno, and Senate President, Godswill Akpabio visited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday. Governor Eno is the APC leader in his state.”
Though there hasn’t been an official statement from Eno’s camp about a party switch, this comment has definitely raised eyebrows — especially since he was still widely seen as a PDP man just weeks ago.
One thing is clear though: Eno’s political alignment now leans towards the APC, and he seems to be getting full endorsement from the top.
