Gunmen Attack Old Oyo National Park, Casualties Reported

Gunmen have reportedly attacked the Old Oyo National Park located in the Oke Ogun geopolitical zone of Oyo State, leading to the loss of lives.

According to available reports, the attackers opened fire during the incident, resulting in casualties. However, as of the time of filing this report on Wednesday, the exact number of victims has not been officially confirmed.

The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the attack. The Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said security agencies have been mobilised to respond to the situation.

In a statement issued on Wednesday afternoon, Ayanlade disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, alongside other security chiefs, is already on the way to the affected area. He added that tactical units have been deployed to prevent further violence.

“Yes, there was an attack by yet-to-be-identified men against personnel of the national park,” he said. “The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, CP Femi Haruna, has deployed tactical teams, Mobile Police Force officers of the Nigeria Police Force, and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit to the area to prevent further breakdown of law and order.”

Security agencies are expected to provide more details as operations continue and the situation becomes clearer.
