Gunmen Strike Again in Niger State, Torch Police Checkpoint Days After Deadly Market Attack

Barely two days after the deadly attack on Kasuwar Daji market in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, gunmen have carried out another assault in the same axis, further heightening fear among residents.

This time, the attackers targeted a Mobile Police (MOPOL) checkpoint in New Kalli, Wawa Ward, striking in the early hours of Sunday at about 12:30 a.m.

According to information gathered by standarddailypress, the assailants set fire to the police officers’ living quarters, destroyed farm produce, and made away with some personal belongings belonging to the officers. Fortunately, no casualties were recorded during the raid.

“They burnt their room and packed some of their belongings,” a local source confirmed.

The latest attack comes amid growing tension in Borgu Local Government Area, following the massacre at Kasuwar Daji market, where more than 40 people were killed and many others — including children and elderly women — were abducted.

Many of the victims of the earlier attack were residents of surrounding rural communities, deepening concerns over the worsening security situation in the area and the repeated targeting of both civilians and security personnel.
