A high-capacity bus was engulfed by fire on Tuesday along the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State, disrupting traffic on the busy route. The bus, reportedly heading towards Iyana Oworo, caught fire near the Adekunle axis of the bridge.
At the time of reporting, it was unclear if there were any casualties. Motorists and commuters slowed down as the blaze spread, causing congestion on the bridge.
Firefighters from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service were promptly deployed to contain the fire. Confirming the incident on X, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said officers were on the scene managing traffic while efforts to extinguish the fire continued.
“A high-capacity bus is on fire on the Third Mainland Bridge, by Adekunle, inwards Iyana Oworo, affecting traffic,” LASTMA stated. “Efforts are ongoing to put out the fire, and our officers are on scene managing the traffic situation.”
