The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has announced the temporary suspension of the enforcement of the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 1991. The decision, he explained, was taken in the interest of Nigerians and out of respect for the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
Speaking during a meeting with an NBA delegation led by its President, Afam Josiah Osigwe (SAN), at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the IGP clarified that the pause would remain in effect pending the outcome of a Motion on Notice scheduled for hearing on October 16, 2025, at the Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, the visit offered both sides an opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions on issues of mutual concern, including strengthening collaboration between the police and the legal community. He noted that although no court order currently restrains enforcement, the police opted for a temporary suspension as a precautionary measure.
Egbetokun reaffirmed his commitment to enforcing existing laws with fairness, transparency, and respect for citizens’ rights. He also assured that the Nigeria Police Force would continue working closely with key justice system stakeholders to promote public confidence and uphold the rule of law.
