IGP Orders Nationwide Collection of Police Officers’ Bank Details, Nominal Roll

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has issued a fresh directive ordering police commands and formations across the country to immediately submit the full nominal roll and bank account details of officers serving under them.

The directive, which was contained in an official police signal dated March 30, 2026, was marked “M/IMMEDIATE”, showing just how urgently it is being treated. It was sent from the IGP Secretariat in Abuja to all Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, Commissioners of Police across states, and heads of various police units nationwide.

According to the signal, every command and formation is expected to provide a complete record of officers under their authority, including inspectors and rank-and-file personnel. Beyond just listing names, the police leadership also demanded the submission of the officers’ bank account details, making this a far-reaching administrative exercise.

The information is to be submitted in both hard and soft copy formats, with the digital version specifically required in an editable Microsoft Excel file and sent through the official police email channel. The deadline for the submission has been fixed for Thursday, April 9, 2026, giving commands only a short window to comply.

What stands out most in the directive is the tone. It made it clear that the request should be treated as a matter of “utmost urgency”, and also warned that compliance is expected without the need for repeated reminders. In other words, this is not being presented as a routine circular that can be pushed aside.

The directive was not limited to regular police commands alone. It was also extended to several specialised formations and institutions across the force, including police colleges, training schools, tactical units, Border Patrol, Maritime Police, Counter-Terrorism units, Interpol, the Police Airwing, and Mobile Police (MOPOL) formations.

Naturally, this development may raise questions among observers about the purpose behind the data gathering, especially because it involves both personnel records and financial details. However, as of now, the signal itself reportedly did not publicly state the exact reason for the request.

Still, given the scale and urgency of the order, it is clear that the police hierarchy wants a detailed and updated record of its personnel structure across the country — and fast.
