Indian Expat Abducted, Police Officer Killed in Oyo Farm Attack

In a shocking turn of events in Ogunmakin community near Ibadan, Oyo State, an Indian expatriate was abducted, and a police officer lost his life during a daring attack on an agricultural farm.

The incident occurred on January 16 at about 1 pm at Aqua Triton Company, when approximately 10 bandits stormed the farm. Renjith Pillai, 42, a company director, was kidnapped while inspecting crops.

Four Police Mobile Force (PMF) officers were guarding the farm. Inspector Imoobe Prester bravely confronted the attackers to protect the expatriate. During the encounter, he was shot, and the bandits fled with his AK-47 and the abducted expatriate. He was rushed to medical care but later died.

Authorities deployed a joint task force, including Idi-Ayure Division personnel, PMF, anti-kidnapping units, local hunters, and vigilantes, to track the suspects and recover the stolen firearm. The officer’s body was taken to Adeoyo Hospital morgue for autopsy.

This attack underscores the growing threat of armed banditry in rural Oyo. Governor Seyi Makinde previously warned that bandits fleeing military offensives in Northwestern Nigeria were moving into the state, but assured the public that the government would pursue and neutralize them.
