The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially extended the 2025 admissions deadline for all public universities from October 31 to November 17, 2025. This update, announced by JAMB’s Public Communication Adviser, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, comes as a relief to several institutions struggling to meet the earlier date due to unforeseen challenges.
According to JAMB, the decision was influenced by “emergent and compelling circumstances” that disrupted the admission timeline. The board cited an appeal from the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) following a court order that temporarily halted the 2025/2026 admission process. The injunction was only lifted on October 28, 2025, leaving universities with limited time to conclude admissions.
Another major reason for the extension was the recent accreditation of 229 new academic programmes across 37 universities by the National Universities Commission (NUC). The accreditation, which took place on October 29, 2025, required universities to begin fresh admission scheduling for these newly approved courses.
While appreciating universities that had already met the initial deadline, JAMB stressed that the extension was to ensure fairness and inclusivity. The new date—November 17—is now final and binding for all public universities. Dr. Benjamin urged institutions to use the extra time effectively, as no further extensions would be granted.
He reiterated JAMB’s commitment to maintaining a transparent and credible admission process that aligns with national education goals while respecting institutional autonomy. “The Board remains focused on ensuring a seamless process that upholds fairness to all candidates and institutions,” he stated.
