Jonathan, Dickson, NGF Mourn Bayelsa Deputy Governor Ewhrudjakpo

Former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has expressed deep shock over the death of the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo. The former deputy governor reportedly passed away on Thursday after collapsing in his office in Yenagoa, a development that has sent waves of grief across the state and beyond.

In his tribute, Dr. Jonathan described Ewhrudjakpo as a devoted public servant, a true patriot, and a loyal steward of Bayelsa State and Nigeria. He noted that throughout his years in public service, the late deputy governor served with unwavering passion and earned the respect and admiration of many.

Jonathan recalled Ewhrudjakpo’s strong work ethic, intellectual depth, and lifelong commitment to learning. He said the late politician brought distinction to every position he occupied, from serving as a commissioner to his time in the Senate and later as deputy governor. The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) also joined in mourning the late deputy governor. In a statement issued by its Director of Media and Strategic Communications, Yunusa Tanko Abdullahi, the NGF said it was deeply saddened by the news of his passing. The forum described Ewhrudjakpo as a dedicated and visionary public servant who served Bayelsa State with commitment and integrity.

The NGF noted that his values and approach to public service were inspiring and would remain indelible in the hearts of colleagues, friends, and associates who worked with him over the years.

Former Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Seriake Dickson, also paid a glowing tribute, describing Ewhrudjakpo as a rare blend of competence, intellect, loyalty, and selflessness. Dickson said these qualities defined their decades-long relationship and remained consistent throughout Ewhrudjakpo’s public life.

According to Dickson, the late deputy governor distinguished himself even in the most challenging moments, standing firm on principles shaped by years of mentorship and experience. He described him as a man who lived a simple life but made a profound impact, adding that Ewhrudjakpo was formidable in intellect, emotionally stable, mature, and deeply principled.
