Mallam Auwal, father of Umar Auwal, the prime suspect in the shocking murder of a housewife and her six children in Kano’s Dorayi Chiranchi area, has called on authorities to execute his son swiftly rather than keep him in prison at taxpayers’ expense.
The tragedy occurred when Fatima Abubakar, 35, and her six children were allegedly killed by assailants led by Umar at their residence in Dorayi Gidan Kwari, sparking nationwide outrage. President Bola Tinubu condemned the killings and ordered a full investigation.
Speaking on a radio station, Malam Auwal distanced himself from his son, calling him “useless to society” and insisting that Umar should be eliminated rather than remanded in custody. He added, “What he committed against my younger sister and her six children… is condemnable. I distance myself from him. Umar and his likes are supposed to be eliminated. They are not supposed to be remanded and fed with taxpayers’ money.”
The grieving father praised the police for their swift handling of the case and said neither he nor Umar’s mother would attend the trial. Umar, currently in custody, is accused of murdering his aunt and her six children in broad daylight on Saturday, January 17. The victims include Maimuna (17), Aisha (16), Bashir (13), Abubakar (10), Faruk (7), and Abdussalam (1½).
Police confirmed that Umar had confessed to the killings, as well as a recent attack in Tudun Yola, where two housewives were killed and their home set ablaze.
