Kano NLC Urges Tinubu to Address Insecurity Amid Nationwide Protest

The Chairman of the Kano State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Kabiru Inuwa, has called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently tackle the country’s persistent insecurity. The call was made during the nationwide NLC protest, where demands were presented to Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf for onward submission to the President.

Comrade Inuwa emphasized that the rising wave of insecurity has caused immense hardship for Nigerians, stressing the need for coordinated efforts between the President, state governors, and security agencies. He stated, “For every nation that is bedevilled with insecurity to this magnitude, we are at the brink of collapse.”

While acknowledging Kano’s relative peace, Inuwa warned against complacency, saying, “We have fewer of these crimes here, but we must remain vigilant to ensure that what is happening elsewhere does not engulf our people. Security agents—police and military—who protect us are also losing their lives, and their families often receive inadequate support.”

He called for collaborative solutions involving the Governors’ Forum and local security apparatus, asserting that those on the ground are best placed to provide effective strategies. Inuwa concluded, “We sincerely believe that collaborative efforts are the only way forward to make Nigeria secure.”

Also speaking, Muttaqa Yusha’u, representative of the NLC President, highlighted that worsening insecurity affects education, food security, and other critical sectors, emphasizing that no meaningful development can occur without safety and peace.

Receiving the protesters, Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf’s Chief of Staff, Sulaiman Sani Wali, assured that the state government remains fully committed to tackling insecurity. He commended the NLC for conducting the protest peacefully and promised to forward their demands to President Tinubu.
