The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the tragic attack on Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, located in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, where armed bandits killed a school official and abducted 25 students.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, November 17, 2025. According to earlier reports, heavily armed assailants stormed the school around 4:00 a.m., firing shots as they gained access to the premises.
In an official statement, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar Kotarkoshi, said the attackers, armed with sophisticated weapons, forcefully breached the school compound before security operatives could repel them.
“The police tactical units deployed in the school engaged them in a gun duel,” he stated. “Unfortunately, the suspected bandits had already scaled through the fence of the school and abducted twenty-five students from their hostel to an unknown destination.”
Abubakar also confirmed that a staff member, identified as Hassan Makuku, was shot dead during the attack, while another staff member, Ali Shehu, sustained a gunshot injury to his right hand.
Following the assault, the police command urgently deployed additional tactical squads, working in collaboration with military personnel and local vigilantes, to track the movement of the gunmen and rescue the abducted students. Abubakar disclosed that the teams are currently combing known bandit routes and surrounding forests in pursuit of the perpetrators.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, had reaffirmed the command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property across the state. “The Commissioner reiterates the Command’s unwavering determination to safeguard the people of Kebbi State. He appeals to the public to remain calm, vigilant, and continue supporting police operations to maintain peace and stability.”
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, also confirmed the incident, noting that the exact number of abducted students was still being verified. He said the deputy governor, Senator Umar Tafida, had been dispatched to the school to assess the situation on behalf of Governor Nasir Idris, who is currently out of the state.
Idris assured residents that the state government is working closely with security agencies to ensure the safe return of the abducted students and restore normalcy to the affected community.
