Kenyan President Orders Swift Investigation Into Nairobi killings

KENYAN President William Ruto has directed security agencies to expedite their investigation into the recent discovery of nine mutilated bodies in a Nairobi dumpsite. Speaking in Elgeyo-Marakwet County on Saturday, Ruto assured the public that those responsible would be held accountable and emphasised the importance of maintaining peace and lawful conduct.

The bodies, mostly of women and girls, were found wrapped in sacks and black polythene bags, some showing signs of burns and decomposition. They were located less than 100 metres from Kware police station in the Mukuru kwa Njenga slum. The state-funded Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) confirmed the discovery.

The president’s call for swift justice comes amidst rising pressure to address the abductions and killings of young Kenyans participating in anti-government protests. Ruto emphasised, ‘No stone will be left unturned,’ as he urged Kenyans to uphold peace while ensuring that justice is served.

This incident has intensified scrutiny on security forces, with human rights groups accusing them of excessive force against demonstrators protesting against government policies, including proposed tax hikes. The president’s firm stance is seen as an effort to restore public trust in the government’s ability to maintain law and order while addressing the root causes of the unrest.
