Kidnappers Demand ₦40m Ransom For Newly Called Lawyer And Sister

The family of Peace Onyesom, a lawyer recently called to the bar, has cried out after she and her sister, Gift Onyesom, were kidnapped along the Okene-Auchi road on Friday, September 23. The incident happened while Peace was returning from the call-to-bar ceremony.

Speaking with Punch on Sunday, the victims’ sister, Adaeze Onyesom, narrated that Gift had been in touch with another sibling before her line went dead. Later, a man who claimed to be a policeman answered her phone and informed the family that the sisters had been abducted.

Adaeze disclosed that the kidnappers initially demanded ₦100m ransom but later reduced it to ₦20m per person, making it ₦40m in total. Despite the family pleading and offering ₦7m, the abductors reportedly refused, insisting on full payment. She added that the family has been forced to sell property in desperation to raise funds.

Meanwhile, the Force PRO, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that security operatives had already rescued eight of the kidnapped victims, with efforts ongoing to secure the release of Peace, Gift, and two others still in captivity. The Onyesom family continues to appeal to authorities for urgent intervention.
