Kwara Customs Command Generates N5bn In 9 Months

Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Kwara State command has generated the sum of N5 billion between January and September, this year.
Out of this amount, the command generated  the sum of N2.7 billion between July and September  this year.

The command also recorded 21 seizures comprising of rice, vegetable oil and used vehicles during the period under review.
According to the state Customs Comptoller, Hussein Ahmed  “a comparative review of the preceding year 2019 indicated that the
command realized N698.8 million.
The latest report represents 62.9 per cent of the annual target with a differential of N2 billion from the record of the previous year.”

The Comptroller put the 2020 revenue target for the command at N8 billion, representing 62.9 per cent.

He added that the command had so far generated a sum of N7.5 billion since its creation July last year.

He attributed the shortfall in the command’s income generation to “government fiscal policies such as high excise duty rates which leads to low patronage of excise products, ban on importation of foreign rice and vehicles through the land borders, general economic down turn occasioned by COVID-19 which also led to lockdown of the entire excise
factories in the command.”
