THE Lagos State Safety Commission has sealed two lock-up shops on Martins Street, off Broad Street, due to safety violations.
The Director-General of the Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, disclosed that the two lock-up shops were sealed following a petition from a concerned member of the public alleging that the shops violated safety rules and regulations.
According to him, the Commission had a mandate to ensure the safety of lives and property in Lagos State.
He stated that the two shops were sealed in response to the petition received by the Commission from a concerned resident about a transformer located directly in front of the shops at No. 148, Broad Street, Marina, Lagos.
Preliminary investigations showed that a transformer was installed directly in front of the two shops.
“The barricade on the transformer is touching the wall of the building, coupled with a gas generator situated close to the transformer, which poses a high risk and unsafe act to the people and the environment, as this may lead to another fire outbreak.
He implored members of the public to support the government’s zero-tolerance policy against violations of safety rules and regulations.
He emphasized that safety was a collective responsibility and urged members of the public to report unsafe practices or infractions to 0700SAFETY
