Unidentified hoodlums on Saturday disrupted a Labour Party (LP) – African Democratic Congress (ADC) event in Alimosho Local Government Area, Lagos State. The event was meant to officially mark the defection of LP members in Alimosho to ADC.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), over 100 hoodlums armed with knives and canes stormed the LP office in Idumu, forcing members and officials to flee. Several party members were injured, and party property was destroyed.
Undeterred, the organisers quickly moved the ceremony to the Eco Centre Event in Egbeda. LP chairman in Alimosho, Mr Olaranwaju Olushola, described the attack as unwarranted and expressed concern that Nigerians may not freely express themselves ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
The party secretary, Mr Moses Akujuobi, explained that the defection was driven by leadership issues and ongoing litigations within LP. Despite notifying the police and DSS, the ceremony was attacked again at the second venue. Fortunately, no lives were lost, and no serious injuries were reported.
