A contentious land dispute has erupted in Ekhaguare GRA, Benin City, Edo State capital, involving Senator Ehigie Uzamere and Peter Marcus Enahoro, a local resident. Enahoro alleges that the senator has encroached on his 100×100 plot of land, which he purchased from Chief Edwin Nosakhare Elema in 2023.
According to Enahoro, he discovered someone had cleared the land and wrote his name and phone number on it. However, Senator Uzamere’s aide allegedly called him, threatening him. Despite reporting the incident to the police, the senator reportedly refused to respond to the invitation.
The situation took a disturbing turn when Senator Uzamere allegedly called Enahoro, threatening his life and using derogatory language. Enahoro claims he has recorded evidence of the conversation.
Enahoro is now seeking intervention from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Monday Okpebholo, and the Inspector General of Police to bring Senator Uzamere to justice. He asserts that Chief Elema has a court judgment over the land, supporting his claim.
The incident has raised concerns about the abuse of power and the need for accountability, even among public officials.
