Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has announced that the remains of the late Deputy Governor, Mr. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, will be buried on January 30, 2026. The governor made the disclosure during the 179th State Executive Council meeting at Government House, Yenagoa.

Ewhrudjakpo, who passed away on December 11, 2025, at the age of 60, will be honoured with a four-day funeral programme approved by a burial committee chaired by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Nimibofa Ayawei. The activities begin on January 27 with sporting events, followed by a Day of Tributes on January 28.

Valedictory sessions are scheduled for January 29 at the State High Court and Executive Council Chambers, culminating in a requiem mass at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Ofoni, on January 30, before interment. Governor Diri noted that the government, the family, and the church are in full agreement on the planned burial arrangements.
