Letter to Governor-elect Mr. Monday Okpebholo, By Rev. David Ugolor

Dear Governor-elect Okpebholo,

Congratulations on your electoral victory! As you prepare to take on the responsibilities of leading Edo State, I want to share some thoughts that I believe may help guide you in your new role.

Firstly, I encourage you to approach your tenure with caution and mindfulness. The lessons learned from your predecessor, Governor Godwin Obaseki, should not be overlooked. His administration faced both successes and challenges, and reflecting on these experiences can provide valuable insights as you navigate the complexities of governance.

It is crucial that you see yourself as the governor of all Edo people, rather than simply the governor of your party, the APC. The recent elections highlighted that your opponent, the PDP, garnered over 20 percent of the votes. This is a significant portion of the electorate, and it is essential to recognize and respect their voices. By fostering an inclusive approach and reaching out to all constituents, you can build a more unified and harmonious Edo State.

Moreover, remember that those who supported your campaign may not always be the ones who can help you fulfill your promises. It is vital to seek out talented individuals from various backgrounds and experiences who can contribute to your administration. Surrounding yourself with a diverse team will enhance your capacity to deliver on your commitments effectively.

Lastly, I strongly recommend investing in emotional intelligence training. Understanding and managing your emotions, as well as empathizing with others, will be invaluable as you lead a state with diverse needs and aspirations. This training will not only help you connect with people more effectively but also enable you to navigate the challenges that come with leadership.

As you embark on this new chapter, I wish you wisdom and strength. The journey ahead will undoubtedly be demanding, but with careful consideration and a commitment to inclusivity, you can make a meaningful impact on the lives of all Edo people.

Best wishes for a successful tenure.

Sincerely,

Rev. David Ugolor
