Macron Pledges Stronger France–Nigeria Security Partnership Amid Rising Threats

French President Emmanuel Macron has signalled a deeper security partnership with Nigeria as the country battles growing insecurity, especially terrorism in the northern regions.

In a message shared on X on Sunday, Macron said he spoke with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, reaffirming France’s solidarity and support as Nigeria confronts escalating security challenges. He stressed that France would strengthen cooperation with Nigerian authorities and expand assistance to communities most affected by violence.

Macron also called on the international community to take a more active role, warning that the world cannot afford to remain passive in the face of rising insecurity. He said partnerships must be reinforced quickly to support both security operations and humanitarian efforts.

His remarks came as global attention turned once again to Nigeria’s security situation, following renewed statements by former U.S. president Donald Trump, who alleged that violence against Christian communities in Nigeria has intensified. Trump’s comments have further drawn international focus to Nigeria’s internal security and regional stability.
