Former Kaduna State Governor, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has stepped down as Secretary of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing zoning principles following the emergence of the party’s new National Chairman from the North-West.
In a resignation letter dated November 17 and addressed to BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, Makarfi said it would be inappropriate for both the BoT Secretary and the National Chairman to hail from the same geopolitical zone. His decision follows the election of former Minister Kabiru Turaki as the PDP National Chairman during the party’s 2025 national convention in Ibadan.
Makarfi revealed that he had initially attempted to resign two months earlier, but agreed to remain in office at Senator Wabara’s request until the completion of the convention. He explained that stepping aside at this time would help maintain internal balance and allow the new chairman “full space to do the needful.”
He expressed gratitude to members of the Board of Trustees for their cooperation and support throughout his tenure.
