Makinde Takes Security to the Skies: Oyo State Awaits Arrival of Surveillance Aircraft

Governor Seyi Makinde has announced that Oyo State is set to boost its security system with the arrival of advanced surveillance aircraft. According to his monthly newsletter, Number 125, this move aims to “take security to the skies” and address surveillance challenges across the state.

The aircraft, produced by CETC Wuhu Diamond Aircraft Manufacturing Company in China, is expected to arrive by mid-November. Makinde described the initiative as a “new phase in our approach to security,” highlighting that the project will also create training and employment opportunities for local pilots and youths in Oyo State.

He explained that selected local pilots will undergo special training with the manufacturers on how to operate and maintain the aircraft, describing the initiative as both a security investment and an opportunity for skill acquisition.

Makinde recalled previous efforts such as the establishment of Amotekun, support for police operations, and provision of vehicles, communication tools, and welfare benefits to security agencies. He emphasized that this new aerial addition will strengthen those efforts.

The governor noted that the aircraft will particularly enhance operations in forested and hard-to-reach areas where criminals often hide. “The goal is to build an integrated system that detects, deters, and responds to threats before they escalate,” he said.

Makinde also urged residents to remain vigilant and report emergencies through the state’s toll-free line, 615. He assured citizens that the combination of ground and aerial surveillance will make Oyo safer—protecting its borders, forests, mining zones, and communities.

“Security remains the bedrock of development,” the governor concluded, reinforcing his administration’s dedication to ensuring safety and stability throughout the state.
