Malami Breaks Silence: Ex-AGF Confirms EFCC Invitation, Vows to Cooperate

Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has openly confirmed that he has been invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) — and says he is fully prepared to honour the summons.

In a post shared on his personal Facebook page on Friday, Malami described himself as a law-abiding citizen, stressing that accountability and transparency have always guided his public service journey.

“This is to confirm that I have been invited by the EFCC. As a law-abiding and patriotic citizen, I hereby reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation,” he wrote.

Malami noted that choosing to publicly announce the invitation was intentional, aligning with what he called his long-standing belief in openness and responsible governance.

He emphasised: “I understand the spirit of accountability and transparency in public service — principles that I both advocate and champion.” He also assured Nigerians that he would keep them updated as developments unfold.

Malami served as Nigeria’s chief law officer between 2015 and 2023 under former President Muhammadu Buhari, a period marked by major anti-corruption battles, high-stakes asset recovery efforts, and several controversial government decisions.

His tenure was also riddled with intense public scrutiny, especially in its later years, over issues involving asset declarations, contract approvals, and the handling of recovered funds — allegations he repeatedly denied.

As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC has not disclosed details regarding the exact nature or scope of the invitation issued to the former attorney-general.
