In a decisive move to protect public health, NAFDAC has cracked down on a massive cache of harmful goods in Lagos. Over ₦1.5 billion worth of banned, expired, and unregistered products were seized during a sweeping enforcement operation at the Trade Fair market, with the bulk found in the cosmetics section.
Leading the operation, Dr. Martins Iluyomade, NAFDAC’s Director of Investigation and Enforcement, revealed that the raid was triggered by growing public outcry over the availability of dangerous and substandard products in the market. What they uncovered was shocking: warehouses filled with expired goods and a truck packed with counterfeit items—all bypassing regulatory checks.
“This isn’t just about fake creams or expired lipsticks,” Iluyomade warned. “These products, though deceptively packaged, contain toxic chemicals that could wreak havoc on people’s health over time.”
The agency made it clear—those involved won’t walk free. Several individuals linked to the warehouses have already been summoned and may face prosecution. NAFDAC also emphasized that the health risks tied to these products are not just personal—they pose a broader national security threat.
“Contaminated cosmetics and drugs are a silent killer. They don’t just harm one person; they endanger entire communities,” Iluyomade added.
As NAFDAC continues its national sweep, consumers are being urged to remain vigilant, check product labels carefully, and report suspicious items. Because behind the glitz of cheap beauty products or unlabelled consumables may lie dangerous consequences.
