Nasarawa Residents Welcome US Airstrikes, Hope for End to Insecurity

There is growing excitement in Nasarawa State following the United States’ airstrike on a terrorist camp in Bargini village of Jabo, Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State, with many residents expressing renewed hope that the action could help bring an end to years of insecurity in Nigeria.

Residents who spoke with reporters welcomed the decision by the US military to directly target terrorist camps, describing it as a bold step that could weaken banditry and insurgency across the country. Many said the strike has raised expectations that Nigeria may finally see a turning point in the fight against violent groups.

While the operation was largely praised, some residents expressed reservations over comments made by former US President Donald Trump following the strike. A prominent northern leader, who asked not to be named, said he supported the cooperation between Nigeria and the United States but was uncomfortable with what he described as a religious tone in Trump’s remarks.

He stressed that the fight against terrorism should not be framed as a religious war, noting that peace and security often come at a cost. According to him, Nigeria may have to make economic concessions in exchange for foreign military support, but such sacrifices could be worth it if they lead to lasting stability.

Meanwhile, some voices in Nasarawa are calling for the state to be included in future targeted operations, claiming that bandits often use parts of the area as hideouts. They argue that extending such actions could further disrupt criminal networks and improve safety across the region.
