The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has stepped into the lingering face-off between Ibom Air cabin crew member, Juliana Edward, and passenger, Comfort Emmanson, who recently made headlines over an in-flight disagreement.
Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday during an emergency aviation stakeholders’ meeting, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, confirmed that both parties have been invited for questioning as part of ongoing investigations.
“I spoke with Ms. Emmanson this morning, and we are also inviting the Ibom Air cabin crew for continued enquiry. They will appear tomorrow,” Achimugu revealed, while stressing that the NCAA is determined to uncover every detail of what happened.
He clarified that contrary to speculation, the pilot did not call in security personnel upon landing in Lagos, noting that the situation seemed to have calmed down mid-flight. However, Emmanson, who reportedly used the restroom after landing, was the last to disembark, raising curiosity among observers.
Senator Buhari Abdulfatai, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, weighed in on the matter, linking such clashes to what he described as a “decline in discipline” among passengers, airport staff, and even crew members.
Meanwhile, NCAA has issued a fresh reminder that all passengers must switch off their mobile phones completely during take-off and landing, a rule often ignored but now under tighter enforcement.
The incident has since sparked nationwide conversation, with Nigerians split over whether the passenger was unfairly treated or if airline staff simply enforced standard safety rules.
