Concerned staff members of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) have accused the organisation’s Managing Director, Jennifer Adighije, of widespread financial misconduct, reckless spending, and collapse of internal systems under her leadership.
In an open letter titled “NDPHC Is Bleeding Under Mismanagement”, the workers called on the Presidency and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to launch an immediate investigation. They alleged that despite early hopes for reform, the company has “not added a single megawatt” to Nigeria’s power supply during Adighije’s tenure.
A major concern raised in the petition is a proposed ₦900 million budget for a 25th anniversary celebration, which workers described as a wasteful project that “adds zero value to the power sector.” They characterised the event as a “money-siphoning jamboree” with no corresponding improvement in power generation or infrastructure.
The petition also accuses the MD of repeatedly flying private jets for official trips, questioning whether such extravagance aligns with presidential directives—especially during a period of persistent power shortages across the country.
Workers also allege the use of “expensive media consultants,” claiming that multiple media teams accompany the MD at public functions while “the company collapses internally.” They further accuse her of interfering with the promotion process, lowering cut-off marks to favour loyalists, which they say has worsened morale and increased staff resignations.
Controversy Over ₦20 Million Donation
One of the most serious allegations concerns a viral video showing Adighije handing Nollywood actress Sarah Martins ₦20 million in foreign currency, which she claimed came from Seyi Tinubu. According to the petition, Seyi Tinubu later denied being the donor, raising questions about the source of the funds and whether due process was followed.
Martins had earlier accused Lagos State KAI officials of harassment during a charity outreach in Ikate, Lekki. She later went online to thank Seyi Tinubu and the Noella Foundation for the donation, but Seyi clarified that although his friends raised the money out of compassion, he did not personally fund the gift.
However, the video shows Adighije stating, “Seyi asked me to give this to you… he will see you when he returns,” intensifying concerns about transparency and accountability.
Calls for Urgent Action
The petition concludes that under Adighije’s leadership there has been “zero impact, zero value, zero megawatts,” and no new power project or tangible legacy. Workers insist that what exists instead is “waste, extravagance and media drama.”
They are urging the EFCC and the Presidency to:
-
Audit the ₦900 million anniversary budget
-
Investigate the ₦20 million donation
-
Review private jet expenditures
-
Probe alleged HR and promotion manipulations
-
Stop what they describe as reckless spending
The workers stressed that “NDPHC belongs to Nigerians — not one individual,” and warned that the company must not be allowed to degenerate into “a playground for waste and corruption.”
