In a landmark move, the National Examinations Council (NECO) has launched a new examination centre in London, United Kingdom, marking a major milestone in its global expansion drive to make education more accessible to Nigerians abroad.
The new centre was officially unveiled during the Education Matters Conference UK 2025, with NECO’s Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, describing it as a strategic partnership with Barnfield Education Ltd. According to him, the initiative will cater to both students and adult learners who were unable to complete their secondary education or obtain equivalent certificates.
Prof. Wushishi emphasized that the London centre reflects NECO’s commitment to providing credible and inclusive assessments to Nigerians worldwide, in line with the Federal Government’s policy on global educational inclusion. “Our objective is to make quality education accessible to all Nigerians, no matter where they are,” he stated in a press release signed by NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani.
Currently, NECO conducts examinations in seven countries, including Saudi Arabia, with more centres awaiting approval in Egypt and Burkina Faso. The London centre, he said, will not only expand NECO’s global footprint but also enhance its international credibility.
Wushishi also noted that NECO certificates are now recognized by several reputable institutions, including Birmingham City University and Leeds Trinity University in the UK, as well as universities in the United States, Canada, India, China, and Russia.
Reacting to the development, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, praised NECO for ensuring that “no Nigerian child, whether at home or abroad, is left behind.” He added that the move aligns with the Ministry’s broader vision of harnessing the Nigerian diaspora as an educational and developmental resource.
With this new London centre, NECO is not just expanding its reach—it’s redefining how Nigerian education connects with the global stage.
