THE Today for Tomorrow Initiative, in collaboration with Actionaid Nigeria, has sensitised approximately 150 individuals across five communities in Adamawa to humanitarian development and peace building.
Ketura Balanso, the Adamawa Coordinator for the Today for Tomorrow Initiative, shared this information at the conclusion of the sensitisation session in the Gadomayo community in Yoldepate, on Saturday.
Balanso emphasised that the purpose of the project was to build the communities’ capacity for humanitarian development and peace building, aiming to foster more development within their localities.
“The objective is for you, as a community, to understand the interconnectedness of issues affecting you. Using what we have taught you, advocate to the government and other stakeholders to bring solutions to these challenges,” she said.
She urged the participants to apply the knowledge gained to attract attention from partners and government agencies for sustainable development.
Other communities that benefited from the project include Salama IDP quarters, Damare community, and IDP camps in Girei LGA, as well as Malkohi IDP host community in Yola-South LGA.
Malam Ahmadu Aliyu-Jada, who spoke on behalf of the community, expressed appreciation to the trainers for selecting their area for such an important initiative.
He noted that the engagement had highlighted the need for communities to coordinate and identify issues, leading to solutions for social amenities and peace building.
Aisha Nurudeen, the women’s leader, mentioned that this was the first time their community had been sensitised to their challenges and potential solutions.
She listed some of the key issues, including water supply, roads, clinics, and electricity.
