The Nigerian community in the United States has been thrown into mourning following the passing of Dr. Olumide Osoba, a highly respected medical practitioner whose career touched countless lives both at home and abroad. His family confirmed the sad news to SaharaReporters on Tuesday night.
Dr. Osoba’s academic journey began at Lagos Anglican Boys Grammar School before moving on to the University of Lagos, where he graduated with an MBBS (Honors) from the College of Medicine. His pursuit of excellence later took him to the United Kingdom, where he obtained the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP).
Driven by passion and a deep commitment to medicine, Dr. Osoba relocated to the United States, specialising in General Internal Medicine. He rose to become the Emergency Room Director at Woodhull Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, where he earned a reputation for both his outstanding clinical skills and compassionate care.
Beyond hospital walls, he set up his own medical practice on Marcy Avenue, serving the African-American and Nigerian communities, including members of Nigeria’s Diplomatic Corps at the United Nations. His dedication also extended to academia, as he worked as staff physician at Long Island University, Brooklyn.
Known as a mentor to many Nigerian foreign medical graduates, Dr. Osoba helped shape the careers of young doctors who today hold leadership positions across the world. His passing leaves a huge void among colleagues, patients, and friends who admired his selflessness and service.
He is survived by his wife and children, who now carry forward the legacy of a man remembered not only as a physician but also as a pillar of support to his community.
