Nigerian Government Lifts Ban On Twitter

NIGERIAN Government has lifted the ban on the micro-blogging site of Twitter in Nigeria following approval by President Muhammadu Buhari.

This was disclosed by the Chairman, Technical Committee Nigeria-Twitter Engagement, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi.

While making known the government’s decision in a statement in Abuja, Kashifu the approval was made possible after the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof Isa Ali Ibrahim wrote a memo to the president requesting the lifting of the suspension on the micro-blogging site.

His words: “The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) directs me to inform the public that President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has approved the lifting of the suspension of Twitter operation in Nigeria effective from 12am tonight, 13th January 2022.

According to him, “In the Memo, the Minister updated and requested the President’s approval for the lifting based on the Technical Committee Nigeria-Twitter Engagement’s recommendation.”
