A 46-year-old Nigerian man, Osemwengie Irorere, has been killed in a shooting at the Yorkdale GO Bus Terminal in Toronto, Canada. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Sunday, January 4, 2026.
Toronto Police said both the victim and the suspect boarded a GO bus at the terminal before the suspect shot Irorere and fled on foot. Officers arrived promptly, attempted life-saving measures, but Irorere was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect, identified as Tyrel Gibson, 40, of Toronto, was arrested shortly after the shooting, and a firearm was recovered. Gibson has been charged with first-degree murder and was scheduled to appear at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on Monday, January 5, 2026.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the killing as the community reels from the tragic event.
