Nigerian Military Concludes Investigation into 16 Officers, Court Martial Pending

The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) has completed investigations into 16 officers arrested over allegations of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations, with some set to face trial before military judicial panels. Major General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, confirmed the development on Monday in Abuja.

The officers were initially apprehended in October 2025, and the investigations have now been concluded following standard military procedures. According to Maj.-Gen. Uba, the probe examined the circumstances surrounding each officer’s conduct and identified several with cases to answer, including allegations that border on plotting to overthrow the government—actions deemed inconsistent with the ethics and professional standards expected of military personnel.

Maj.-Gen. Uba stressed that the measures are purely disciplinary, aimed at maintaining discipline, cohesion, and operational effectiveness within the Armed Forces. He assured the public that officers found culpable will be formally arraigned before the appropriate military judicial panels in accordance with the Armed Forces Act and other service regulations.

The Defence Information Director also reaffirmed the AFN’s commitment to professionalism, loyalty, and respect for constitutional authority, assuring that due process and fairness will be observed throughout the proceedings.
