Nigerian Mosque Attack: Worshipers Ablaze

IN a tragic incident in Nigeria’s northern Kano state, one person has died and at least 24 others have been hospitalised following an attack on a mosque during early morning prayers on Wednesday.

The assailant, a 38-year-old resident, reportedly locked the mosque before launching the attack in Larabar Abasawa town in the Gezawa area, according to police reports. An explosion was heard during the assault, further heightening the chaos within the building.

Police spokesman Abdullahi Haruna revealed in a statement that the suspect confessed to carrying out the attack ‘purely in hostility following prolonged family disagreement.’ He cited dissatisfaction with inheritance distribution as the motive behind the assault.

Local police chief Umar Mamman Sanda, speaking to the Daily Trust news website, commented on the unfortunate incident, stating, ‘Out of the 24 that were admitted here, one is dead. It is really unfortunate.’ Sanda confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and providing useful information to authorities as part of their investigation into the attack.

The incident underscores the consequences of unresolved family disputes and highlights the need for community vigilance and conflict resolution to prevent such tragic events.
