Fresh controversy has erupted over the health of detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, as one of his lawyers, Barrister Onyedikachi Ifedi, accused the Department of State Services (DSS) of “propaganda, concealment, and medical quackery.” The lawyer expressed shock over what he described as deliberate misinformation aimed at downplaying Kanu’s worsening condition.
Ifedi alleged that the DSS has been “playing hide-and-seek” with medical examinations, imposing questionable doctors on Kanu’s treatment team. He went as far as describing one of the practitioners as “a quack doctor” with little knowledge of the dangers linked to potassium depletion in the bloodstream. According to him, this raises serious doubts about the agency’s competence in handling sensitive health matters.
He questioned why the DSS has consistently refused to release Kanu’s medical results if, as they claim, there is nothing to worry about. “Why also did they have to fly his blood samples to South Africa for analysis?” he asked, suggesting that the secrecy only confirms something is wrong.
The lawyer insisted that the DSS is unfit to manage life-threatening cardiovascular conditions like congestive heart failure and aortic valve regurgitation. He challenged the agency to hold a transparent press conference where independent doctors and journalists could openly assess Kanu’s health status.
Ifedi further accused the DSS of pressuring doctors to alter medical reports to fit the government’s narrative, while blaming Abuja-based courts for alleged bias. “The health and life of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu are not pawns in the DSS’s propaganda war,” he declared, vowing to keep exposing what he described as dangerous falsehoods to both Nigerians and the international community.
