Japan wants to invest almost 35 billion euros in the construction of nuclear reactors in the USA. The project is part of the exchange for lower US tariffs.

A Japanese-American joint venture wants to build nuclear reactors worth almost 35 billion euros in two US states. It is about as Small Modular Reactors (SMR) are known mini nuclear reactorsas stated in the joint statement issued during the visit of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to US President Donald Trump was published in Washington, DC. The reactors are to be built in the states of Tennessee and Alabama.
In addition, investments amounting to the equivalent of almost 29 billion euros have been agreed in natural gas power plants in the states of Pennsylvania and Texas, it said. The nuclear reactors are to be built by GE Vernova Hitachi, a joint venture between General Electric and the Japanese conglomerate Hitachi. The investments are part of a commitment from the Japanese government to the USAto the import tariffs introduced by Trump to reduce. In total, Japan has committed investments totaling $550 billion (around €478 billion).
