Ogun’s 250-Bed Specialist Hospital to Open in December, Set to Curb Medical Tourism

Governor Dapo Abiodun has announced that the long-awaited Ogun State Medical Centre of Excellence, also known as the 250-bed hospital in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, will be officially commissioned in December.

During an inspection of the facility, Abiodun revealed that the state government is finalising the project initially started by the previous administration. He noted that the hospital will be managed by the Abuja Medical Centre of Excellence, in partnership with King’s College Hospital, London, ensuring international-standard healthcare delivery.

The governor expressed confidence that the new facility will significantly reduce medical tourism, allowing residents to access world-class treatment without travelling abroad. “This hospital will rival some of the best in the country and beyond,” Abiodun assured.

Dr Frank Etang, Project Manager of Healthshare Integrated Solutions, confirmed that the team is on track to meet the commissioning deadline. “We are currently rounding off the first floor, which houses the theatre, ICU, and wards — everything is on schedule for December,” he stated.

The completion of the 250-bed hospital marks a major milestone in Ogun State’s healthcare reform, positioning the state as a growing hub for medical innovation and advanced care in Nigeria.
