Okomu Oil Palm Company Brings Christmas Cheer to Vulnerable Children and Displaced Families
As Christmas draws near, Okomu Oil Palm Company Plc has continued its tradition of generosity by donating food items and clothing worth millions of naira to The Roseluyi Exceptional Students Academy and the Home for the Needy Foundation at Ohodua IDP Camp. The donations are part of the company’s annual Christmas outreach, aimed at supporting vulnerable children and displaced families during the festive season.
The company, known for its longstanding commitment to communities around its operational base, delivered essential supplies to the school and IDP camp. The items included bags of rice, beans, garri, tubers of yam, cartons of noodles, semovita, beverages, biscuits, toilet rolls, Okomu Banga palm oil, clothing, and shoes—offering both practical and emotional support to recipients.
Speaking during the presentation, Okomu’s Communication Officer, Mr. Fidelis Olise, emphasized the company’s philosophy of compassion and shared humanity. “Christmas is a time to show love, spread joy, and demonstrate values that reflect the season. By providing these items, we ensure that these children celebrate Christmas in dignity and happiness. No one should be left behind,” he said.
At the Roseluyi Exceptional Students Academy, the children welcomed the donations with visible excitement. The school’s Director, Mrs. Rosemary Isaac-Aluyi, described the contribution as timely and impactful. “This is an uncommon gesture from Okomu and will go a long way. Raising these children requires resources that are not always available. Support like this provides food, stability, and the basic comforts every child deserves,” she said.
A similar scene unfolded at the IDP camp, where displaced families expressed gratitude through songs of appreciation. Pastor Evelyn Omigie, receiving the items on behalf of the centre, said the intervention brought hope to residents who often feel forgotten. “Okomu is like an angel sent by God to celebrate Christmas with us. This gesture shows that people still care about our wellbeing,” she said.
Beyond material relief, the outreach offers emotional reassurance, highlighting the importance of community solidarity during festive periods. Over the years, Okomu’s Christmas initiative has grown into a widely anticipated event, supporting hundreds of households in nearby communities. The company affirmed its commitment to sustaining and expanding the program as part of its broader goal to enhance community welfare.
As the holiday season approaches, Okomu’s gesture serves as a reminder of the true spirit of Christmas—love, hope, and kindness extended to those who need it most.
