Okonjo-Iweala Denies Viral Post Criticising Tinubu, Calls It Fake

Abuja — The Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has disowned a viral social media post allegedly criticising President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over Nigeria’s security challenges.

In a statement posted on her verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, the former Minister of Finance described the circulating message as “fake and misleading,” urging the public to disregard it.

“I have recently been made aware of yet another fake post circulating on social media purporting to quote me as criticising President Tinubu. This is completely false,” she wrote.

Dr. Okonjo-Iweala said the fabricated statement was part of an ongoing wave of misinformation designed to exploit her name for political gain.

She cautioned Nigerians to verify information before sharing and warned against the misuse of public figures’ identities to fuel division or spread false narratives.

The WTO chief reaffirmed her focus on global trade development and supporting inclusive economic growth in developing countries — including Nigeria.
