Nigeria’s president, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been commended for appointing Professor Idia Ize-Iyamu, as a substantive Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Benin City.
This was contained in a congralatory statement to the woman professor, issued by Mr. Okoyo, a Canada-based Chartered Accountant and Behavioural Scientist.
Okoyo added that the appointment by President Tinubu, as apt and worthwhile, adding that it has capped Prof Ize-Iyamu’s erudition, hardwork and immesurable contributions to the medical profession, health education and the society.
Mr. Okoyo, more known as GFO, also said that although Prof Ize-Iyamu merits the position, he however, hailed the appointment as timely and a confirmation of President Tinubu’s disposition to the inclusion of the women folks in Nigerian polity.
“It is joy to me and my family that the siamese wife of my great friend and confidant, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, is elevated to such a lofty position, where she will continue with her usual caregiving work humanity”.
Said Okoyo, a stalwart of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), who is also notable in the party’s diaspora activities.
It could be said that the UBTH, with the appointment of Prof Idia Ize-Iyamu, a professor of Orthodontics with the University of Benin (UNIBEN) and a Consultant Orthodontist of the UBTH, and a pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God, is about the first time a woman is made to head the institution, that was fitst established by the then Brigadier Osaigbovo Ogbemudia, as Midwest Medical Centre in 1971 and later transformed to a university teaching hospital, in 1973.
