The Ondo State Police Command has rescued a 4-year-old girl from a child-trafficking syndicate allegedly operating across Ondo, Delta, and Anambra states. Police spokesperson, SP Ayanlade Olayinka, described the breakthrough as a major step in the ongoing fight against human trafficking.
The case began when Sunday Kingsley of Alagbaka Extension, Akure, reported that his daughter, Jesinta, had gone missing while in her mother’s care. Initial investigations led to the arrest and arraignment of some suspects at the Family Magistrate Court, but they were later granted bail.
A breakthrough came when Kingsley spotted his missing daughter in Asaba, Delta State. Acting swiftly, detectives from the Command’s Gender Desk Team recovered Jesinta and reunited her safely with her family.
During the rescue operation, police arrested 30-year-old Amaka Chukwuemeka, who allegedly confessed to buying the child for ₦3.7 million. She also mentioned other accomplices in the syndicate, including those behind forged adoption papers.
More arrests followed, exposing what police described as a “well-organized trafficking network” spanning multiple states. The Command has vowed to uncover every link in the chain and ensure justice is served.
SP Olayinka emphasized that Ondo State would never serve as a safe haven for traffickers, stressing the Command’s resolve to clamp down on all forms of organized crime.
