In a fresh wave of counter-terrorism operations, troops of the Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have scored another major victory against Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents, killing 17 fighters across troubled communities in Borno and Adamawa States. The operations, which also led to the discovery and safe detonation of 14 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), mark a critical step forward in securing the North-East region.
The coordinated assault, carried out between July 23 and August 2, 2025, spanned hotbeds of militant activity in Bama, Konduga, Gwoza, Magumeri, Biu, and extended to Michika in Adamawa State.
A Combined Offensive with Precision and Courage
According to Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Director of Army Public Relations for the Headquarters Theatre Command, the offensives involved fighting patrols, ambushes, logistics disruptions, and clearance operations. Air support from the Nigerian Air Force and collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) were also key to the operation’s success.
In locations like Bula Daburu, Alau Dam, Bitta, Kawuri, and Ajiri, troops not only killed multiple terrorists but also recovered a significant cache of arms, including AK-47 rifles, a PKT gun, loaded magazines, and thousands of rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
Terrorist Explosives Foiled, Civilians Protected
One of the most critical aspects of the operation was the detection and safe detonation of over 14 planted IEDs—a chilling reminder of how insurgents still aim to wreak havoc on both military and civilian lives. Thanks to swift action, the devices were defused without incident.
Troops also intercepted vast quantities of terrorist supplies: 2,300 litres of diesel, over 1,000 litres of petrol, solar panels, rice, motorcycles, and two power generators. These logistics seizures are a blow to insurgent mobility and endurance
Hope Returns to Displaced Communities
Perhaps the most heartening development is the resettlement of over 987 internally displaced persons (IDPs) back to their ancestral home in Mandaragrau, Biu LGA. The safe return, carried out in partnership with the Borno State Government, signals a step toward normalcy, dignity, and socio-economic revival.
In a separate effort to enhance border security, OPHK troops also joined forces with Nigerien counterparts around the Diffa–Duji–Damasak axis, bolstering regional stability.
Securing Peace for the North-East
This latest round of success, OPHK leadership says, reaffirms the military’s resolve to uproot insurgency and restore peace to the region. “These operations reflect the directive of the military high command,” said Captain Kovangiya, “and our commitment to creating a safe, thriving environment for Nigerians in the North-East.”
