Oshiomhole and the Colonisation Mission in Edo North

Those who first envisioned Edo North imagined a land bound not by division, but by unity an inclusive political family where every community is seen, heard, and treated as equal. Edo North was meant to thrive on fairness, mutual respect, and a shared sense of belonging, not domination by one group over others.

Historically, the political arrangement of Edo North reflected this noble vision. The senatorial seat was designed to rotate fairly among the three constituent blocs Etsako, Akoko Edo, and Owan as a symbol of justice and balance. Since the return to democracy in 1999, this understanding guided representation at the National Assembly:

Senator Kassim Oyofo (South Ibie, Etsako)
Senator Domingo Obende (Igarra, Akoko Edo)
Senator Yisa Braimoh (Owan)
Senator Francis Alimikhena (Uwanno, Etsako)
and now Senator Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole (Etsako)

A closer look at this history reveals an uncomfortable truth. While Etsako has repeatedly occupied the seat often for two full terms Akoko Edo and Owan have been restricted to a single term each. This imbalance alone raises questions of fairness. But the situation becomes even more troubling with the current trajectory.

Beyond seeking a second term, Senator Oshiomhole is widely perceived to be on a deliberate colonisation mission concentrating power by diverting strategic appointable and electable positions to close allies and family members. This is not merely politics it is the construction of a political empire that sidelines other communities and entrenches inequality.

Such actions strike at the heart of the Edo North ideal. They deepen feelings of exclusion, fuel resentment, and perpetuate injustice. When power is hoarded, democracy weakens. When communities are marginalised, unity fractures. And when injustice becomes normalised, peace is endangered.

Edo North deserves better.

The spirit of egalitarianism, fairness, and rotational justice must be restored. No community should be treated as second class in its own senatorial district. The future of Edo North must not be sacrificed on the altar of personal ambition.

This marginalisation, this injustice, this inequality must stop for the sake of unity, for the sake of peace, and for the sake of generations yet unborn.

Edo North belongs to all of us.
