Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has sent a strong message to those serving under his administration — bribery and corruption will not be tolerated. He made it clear that any appointee caught in such acts will be shown the way out immediately.
This warning comes barely two weeks after six officials of the Ministry of Justice were dismissed for allegedly inflating their salaries. The governor, speaking during a church service at Abayi District of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Aba, emphasized that corruption has no place in his government.
Otti explained that his decision to join Abia politics was driven by a desire to restore the state’s dignity and uphold the honesty the Igbo people are known for. According to him, anyone demanding money for favors within government is nothing but a fraudster, because they will take the money and still fail to deliver.
He stressed that corruption has no hiding place in his administration. “If you get involved, I will fire you. We are intolerant of corruption and nobody can beg on your behalf,” he declared.
The governor also highlighted that the recent recruitment of 5,394 teachers in Abia State was strictly on merit, noting that none of them had to pay a bribe to secure the job.
