I received with deep sorrow and disbelief the news of the passing of my brother, our illustrious son, statesman, and patriot, Dr. Solomon Ehigiator Arase. His death is a profound personal loss to my family, to the Ahmadu Bello University Alumni Association to which we both proudly belonged, to Edo State, and to our dear country, Nigeria.
His passing remains surreal to me. Only a few months ago, he penned a most heartfelt tribute to my family and me when my beloved wife went to be with the Lord. Never did I imagine that I would so soon be called upon to write a tribute in honour of his remarkable and truly distinguished life.
Dr. Arase etched his name in history as the first Edo son to ascend to the exalted office of Inspector-General of Police, a distinction he bore with uncommon dignity. In that high office, he served Nigeria with integrity, courage, and exemplary professionalism, leaving behind a legacy of discipline, excellence, and fidelity to the highest ideals of public service.
Even in retirement, he did not withdraw from service. With characteristic humility and commitment, he continued to lend his wisdom and experience to the nation and to his beloved Edo State. His life was one of duty, justice, compassion, and devotion to the common good.
I extend my deepest condolences to his dear wife, children, and the entire Igbe-Arase family on this irreparable loss. I pray that the good Lord comforts them at this time of grief, and I commend his noble soul into the loving arms of our Blessed Mother, the Most Holy Virgin Mary, that she may continually wrap him in her Blue Mantle. May his soul rest in peace, and may perpetual light shine upon him.
