Panic As Suspected Herdsmen K!ll Security Officer In Udei Ambush

A dark cloud descended over Benue State on Wednesday as tragedy struck the Udei community, following a brutal ambush by suspected armed Fulani herdsmen. Among the lives lost in the attack was Ernest Ayila, a young security officer remembered by friends and family as brave, humble, and deeply committed to protecting his people.

The assault, which has sent fresh waves of panic through already troubled areas like Agan, saw terrified residents flee their homes as gunshots echoed through the air. Eyewitnesses described a coordinated and overwhelming onslaught, leaving local security operatives outgunned and communities defenceless.

Ernest’s death hit particularly hard. On social media, friends and loved ones flooded timelines with his photograph — a face full of purpose — and heartfelt messages mourning a man who gave his life in service. “Rest well, our brother Ernest Ayila,” one post read. “You died a hero.”

Many have now renewed calls for urgent federal intervention and justice, as Benue continues to reel from unending violence. The late officer is just one of many whose sacrifice now embodies the painful reality of insecurity in Nigeria’s Middle Belt.
