People’s Parliament Demands Proof of Professor Amupitan’s Academic Timeline

Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, has come under public scrutiny following details shared in a biographical profile released by Presidential Aide, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, on October 9, 2025. According to the publication, Professor Amupitan was born on April 25, 1967, and attended Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, between 1982 and 1984. By simple arithmetic, this suggests he was admitted into the institution at just fifteen years old.

The People’s Parliament, in a public statement, raised concerns over the accuracy and legality of this timeline, urging the learned silk to provide verifiable evidence to support his academic history. They requested certified documents showing his primary and secondary school records, including dates of completion and eligibility for tertiary admission at such a young age.

The statement emphasized that, as an authority in the Law of Evidence, Professor Amupitan should understand that every assertion requires proof. Citing the Evidence Act of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the group insisted that transparency is essential, especially for someone reportedly under consideration for the position of Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Parliament concluded that the issue is not about sentiment or political loyalty but about truth, integrity, and accountability — values expected from anyone seeking to lead an institution central to Nigeria’s democracy.
